As a custom now, we need to continue following up with the Jailbreak thingy and today i'll be showing you how to semi-untethered jailbreak your iPhone 4 running the latest iOS 7.1.1 using Geeksn0w jailbreaking tool version 2.9.
But before we begin i'd like to warn that this process is at your own risk however i can semi guarantee you nothing serious will happen to your iPhone(unless you didn't follow the instruction below properly, all you just need to do is put your phone back to DFU mode and start all over).
What's the consequence or meaning of this Semi-Untethered Jailbreak ?
IMPORTANT: This is a Semi-Untethered Jailbreak. this means that you can reboot your iPhone without computer and use stock apps / App store apps; but in this way, Cydia, all Jailbreak extensions, Mail, Safari, Calculator and Weather won't wor until you do a tether boot using Geeksn0w(opensnow).

Haven said that lets proceed...
Toolz to be downloaded: Java JRE Offline mode, DotNet Framework and of course iTunes

Let's start!

  1. Download GeekSn0w 2.9 from the official site
  2. Extract the downloaded zip file and run the exe file inside (Run as Administrator)
  3. Now put your iPhone 4 in DFU mode. Just hold down the Home and Power button for 10 seconds, at the end of the latter, release the Power button while continuing to hold only Home button until GeekSn0w respond. Or another way is to hold down the home button and power button at the same and then listen to your PC when it makes that first sound, immediately remove your hand off the power button while still holding the home button(the iPhone should be blank now)
  4. Geeksn0w should have started(Your PC must be Internet enable else it won't work!)
  5. Geeksn0w procedure is fully automated, you'll just have to wait(but don't go take any coffee stay alert! take note lol)
  6. About halfway through the procedure, you will again be asked to set up your iPhone 4 in DFU Mode. Once done, GeekSn0w continue to work.
  7. The phone will reboot in about a minute and come to your home screen, at this point GeekSn0w will be showing the message "Waiting for device to be ready (this will take a lot)".
  8. After about two minutes(perhaps more but don't remove your iPhone), your iPhone will restart automatically and, a few seconds after the restart, GeekSn0w will ask you for the last time to put it into DFU Mode.

  9. Having done so, GeekSn0w perform once again the boot process and, at the end of the latter, It'll warn that the jailbreak has been successful!

As mentioned at the beginning of article, it is a Semi Untethered Jailbreak. Its difference from the traditional tethered is very simple: now you can reboot (power cycle) your iPhone without needing a computer at hand, but by doing so, Cydia, Mail, Safari, Calculator, Weather and all the tweaks installed with the jailbreak, will be deactivated. To reactivate them will require a tethered boot from PC. I'm pretty sure you can boot tether your iPhone using Geeksn0w?
OK here's how...
  • Put your iPhone in DFU mode.
  • Run Geeksn0w 2.9 with Administrator
  • Connect your iPhone and then Click any of the options on the screen that is for your phone which is either "iPhone 4 GSM, iPhone 4 Rev A or iPhone 4 CDMA"
  • It should show Booting with Opensnow
  • Your iPhone will restart
  • Done!

Remember on the 19th of Aug - 2013 Techcrunch posted about Instagram banning apps using the "Insta" and "Gram" words in their names due to copyright and other issues? Well i think things are getting into shapes as we see third party Instagram websites bending to the policy.

Actually what caught my attention was the email i got from Statigram(sorry Iconosquare) few days ago about their new brand name, though i just couldn't bother coz i haven't been on Instagram from my PC for a long time, but it was a comment made by a user on Statigram blog (Andy Leeming) who commented the following...

Statigram is now Iconosquare

andy leeming  5 days agoCut the bullshit, Instagram introduced into their API terms that apps could no longer use the word 'Gram' so apps like Statigram are having to rebrand.

andy leeming  5 days agoHence why Webstagram rebranded to Websta this week too. Coincidence? ;)

andy leeming  4 days ago1. The smaller website probably don't care or 2. Haven't got round to rebranding yet.
Regardless, Statigram and Webstagram have both rebranded due to the new API terms. Fact.

Now lemme take you on a recap.. This is from TechCrunch on Aug 19th 2013

Instagram has updated its brand guidelines to ban apps that feature either the word “Insta” or “Gram" in their names, and it has begun sending emails to existing apps requesting that they change those components “within a reasonable period.”
The emails specifically call out a few updates to the Instagram Brand Guidelinesthat restrict the use of things like logos and the full “Instagram” name. Now, they’re even more specific. An email sent to the Luxogram team, for instance, reads as follows (emphasis ours):
We appreciate your interest in developing products that help people share with Instagram. While we encourage developers to build great apps with Instagram, we cannot allow other applications to look like they might be official Instagram applications or endorsed or sponsored by us.
As we hope you can appreciate, protection of its well-known trademarks is very important to Instagram. For example, it has always been against our guidelines to use a name that sounds or looks like “Instagram” or copies the look and feel of our application. Similarly, as we have clarified in the new guidelines, use of “INSTA” and “GRAM” for an application that works with Instagram is harmful to the Instagram brand. It is important that you develop your own distinctive branding for your applications, and use Instagram’s trademarks only as specifically authorized under our policies.

Now that's the email warning to the third party sites. I think they gave them alot of space to rebrand coz i can see Luxogram still runs fully but it looks like something is up with them... Before posting this i visited their site luxogram.co and here's what the webpage responded on a first timer visit... It states "Luxogram is still in beta. Please work with me as i polish features and iron out the bugs"
The moment you click "I understands, continue..." that message won't appear. Though Techcrunch lay claims that  Luxogram’s creator says that he’s unlikely to make all of the changes that Instagram wants, and will probably shut it down for good.

I really think that's just impossible for a site handling over 1million users monthly!
StatigramLuxogramWebstagramGramfeedInstadrop,Instagallery and dozens more use either word but as of the time of this post, Statigram,Webstagram and Instagallery have all changed their names to Iconosquare, Websta and InfinityGallery respectively. They've all rebranded to a sophisticated web app with great user friendly interface that just keeps you glued.
I hope i've been able to sort why the sudden name change.
About the new Iconosquare?
Reposted: Today() is a very special day for our community and our team. Today Statigram becomes Iconosquare!
Since May 2011 our platform has improved significantly and our community has grown up to 8M registered members including all the most important brands worldwide such as Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Victoria’s Secret, KLM, etc. Originally strictly focused on the analytical aspect we have made Statigram the world’s leading analytics and marketing suite for Instagram thanks to your precious feedback and suggestions.
As of today Statigram is no longer only about analyzing your performance on Instagram it is also about managing your activity and engaging your community. That’s why we have decided to change our name and become Iconosquare. We believe this name perfectly reflects the way our platform has evolved over the last few years.
Iconosquare is the place where images gather, the place where visual content matters. Our name and our logo have changed but our platform remains the same and you will still be able to access all the features you’ve enjoyed so far.

So as to make things look nicer and engaging, microblogging site Twitter announced on Thursday(27-March-2014) that it has officially rolled out two different new features to its users(iPhone and Android).

The Two features are...

(1) Tagging up to 10 people in a photo by searching for them by their name within the app. plus “If you’re the one being tagged, you’ll get a notification. You can adjust notifications, as well as who can tag you, in your settings,” twitter added.

(2) Users can share up to 4 photos in a single tweet.

With the above new feature, by default did you know your twitter privacy settings has been loosed to anyone and everyone for tagging. See below screenshot.

But isn't it annoying that if you aren't learned enough and keeping up to date to twitter news, your twitter account is potentially unsafe(to unwanted tags) due to the default settings that has been made? Well according to Twitter official here's what they had to say to defend their motive for making it a default "Allow anyone to tag me in photos"

For the privacy-minded, it’s worth noting that the default setting Twitter has decided on is to allow anyone to tag you in photos.

However quite a number of users disapproved the motive, but anyways the deal is done you just have to manually adjust the settings. :-)

How to stop anyone from tagging you on Twitter Photo tagging.

Goto your PC/MAC >> Open your browser and type http://twitter.com (make sure you are logged in) >> Click this link Twitter settings  >> Goto select Security and Privacy and just under the Privacy choose either "Only allow people i follow to tag me in photos or Do not allow anyone to tag me in photos".

Thats all have a safe twitter photo tagging experience!

nokia x dual sim 3

There are various reasons why people love to jailbreak their iDevices, however it is also important to know that there's a Tethered Jailbreak and Untethered Jailbreak(tho this is stale coz almost every iPhone users already know what these are all about).

In a short form to explaining what this jailbreaks are(Please note this is for Beginners)

  • A Tethered Jailbroken iPhone is a process whereby you have to power on your iDevice by connecting it to a System(PC or Mac) using a Software e.g Evasion, Geeksn0w and the rest out there. Plus you have to put it in a DFU Mode(meaning Device Firmware Update) Because the moment you jailbreak your iOS and you allow it to turn off, it automatically goes into Recovery Mode. Paralyzing the iPhone until the above compulsory action is done and it could be very frustrating.
See screenshot below....

After the above is successful the screenshot below should be the response from Geeksn0w software, also take note about your iPhone as it flashes on and off.

  • An Untethered Jailbroken iPhone, even without saying a word you should already know that this is the real isshh. I mean no hassle, no stress no nothing! just jailbreak and move on. Turn on and off your iPhone no Probs at all.

Haven't said that now let's go to the main topic:  Reasons why you shouldn't Jailbreak your iPhone 4 iOS 7.1 Tethered yet.

Today i finally took the risk of Jailbreaking my iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1 the tethered version and i just gotta say i'm not impressed. Basically the jailbreak works fine but the moment i started making some customization to it, it starts malfunctioning...

My iPhone 4 started rebooting and shutting down, i had to go DFU mode like forever! and why was this happening? it's coz most of the apps on Cydia weren't designed for iOS 7.1.

The following apps are currently not working on iPhone 4 iOS 7.1 Tethered Jailbreak.

  1. SBSettings: It installs perfectly but just wont work because it has been designed to work on iOS 7.0.6 and not iOS7.1.
  2. Winterboard: Won't respring after you apply a new theme.
  3. Hiddensettings7: Not working

So my best advice is that you should stick to your Jailbroken iPhone iOS 7.til Untethered version comes because apparently this bugs might persist until an Untethered Jailbreak comes to life on iOS 7.1. On this note Jailbreak your iPhone 4 iOS 7.1 at your own risk.

The only thing i currently love about the jailbreak is the Metro 8.2 themes working with 'Dreamboard. It's sooo cool. A windows 8 mimic brilliantly designed.

Click here to learn how to Jail Break your iPhone 4 iOS 7.1 tethered mode.

Previously there has been an authentic way to jailbreak your iPhone 4 but it's only Tethered version. Well apparently now it seems there's a leak somewhere that the same iPhone 4 now has an Untethered Jailbreak and we seem to have proof.

Here's a video snippet uploaded on youtube by RMSiPhone displaying an iPhone 4 that has been jailbroken untethered

One of the trending question about the video which even a blind person could notice was that, the video did not show us any Cydia Icon, which makes people think it's still probably on a test run. Let's not forget that the jailbreak works only on devices equipped with Apple's A4 chip for now which includes the iPhone 4, the 4th generation iPod Touch, and the original iPad but leaves out any of their successors.

The picture below shows a jailbroken iPhone 4 powering up in untethered mode.

Another picture below shows that the jailbreak indeed works on an iOS 7.1

And lastly the picture below shows the user shutting down the fully Untethered iPhone 4 (perhaps because the battery was low lol).

Above all, this Jailbreak hasn't come out yet and we hope by this week iPhone 4 or A4 Chip devices should anticipate for the Jailbreak process. For iPhone 4s,5,5s and Apple A5 chips ya'll can wait till a possible Jailbreak comes out(Atleast i learnt there won't be any jailbreak for them because the hackers and programmers e.g Evaders, iH8snow, Winocom aren't working on it basically coz they said they are keeping an eye on iOS 8 coming out this summer).

Pod2g, a member of the Evad3rs development team behind the Evasi0n jailbreak told iDigitalTimes that “there is a big chance the evad3rs won't focus on [an iOS 7.1 jailbreak] as a team…expect that for iOS 8.”

You read it here. :-)

While we wait for Evasion 7 developers to help create the iOS 7.1 Untethered Jailbreak, here's a Geeksn0w tool that can help you jailbreak your iPhone without much stress.

UPDATE: There's now an Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 Click here for How-To steps

Simply follow this steps...(PS: this procedures are for learned people who know about Jailbreak. And this process is strictly for iPhone 4 (GSM/CDMA) users plus it's a Tethered version meaning you should never allow your iPhone 4 to go off permanently else you'll have to use a laptop to wake it up.)

Ok lets proceed...

How To JailBreak iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1 ?

  • This jailbreak is tethered! This means that whenever your iPhone 4 will be switched on after a power off, you will not be able to boot properly. After a few seconds it will lock in Recovery Mode. To turn it on without errors, you will need to connect it to your computer and use the "Boot Tethered" of GeekSn0w.

  • Supported devices:
  • iPhone 4 GSM (3,1)
  • iPhone 4 GSM Rev A 2012 (3:2)
  • iPhone 4 CDMA (3.3)
What do we need?
  • A computer with Windows operating system
  • GeekSn0w 2.5 ( download )
  • . Freamwork NET installed
  • One of the devices supprtati
  • First, extract the zip archive of GeekSn0w on our Desktop and inside we will find the file "GeekSn0w 2.6.exe" we'll have to run as administrator
  • Once this is done, you will see a screen graphical interface GeekSn0w, now connect your iPhone 4 to your computer and click on the button "Jailbreak"
  • The program will ask you what model of iPhone 4 is in our possession (you have to choose 3.1 / 3.2 or 3.3)
  • Once you have selected this, Press the Jailbreak button to begin the process (fully automatic)
  • You will be asked to set your iPhone 4 into DFU mode (Device Firmware Update mode, to do this, just hold down the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, at the end of the latter, release the Power button while continuing to hold only Home button until GeekSn0w respond.
  • Now we have to wait. GeekSn0w will begin to work, and after about a minute, you will see "Rebooting Device" and your iPhone will be rebooted for the note.
  • You will then be asked to set up for the second time your iPhone into DFU Mode, proceed using the very same procedure as before and you will notice that once you start the DFU mode correctly, GeekSn0w will go to step "Booting with opensn0w"
  • Also finished this step, your iPhone operating result, but despite this, DO NOT UNPLUG your iPhone 4 for any reason, until Geeksn0w has finished, but will be in step "Waiting for the device to be ready (this will take a lot)
  • Even if everything seems to be stopped or blocked, do not panic, this is normal, after about three minutes your iPhone will reboot and you will be asked for the last time to put it into DFU mode.
  • Followed by another "Booting With Opensn0w." To its success, GeekSn0w will show "Done!" And your iPhone will reboot
  • Perfect! now you'll notice your homescreen now has Cydia, you just have to open it and start to install all your favorite tweaks!
10) BOOM!!! Your iPhone 4 iOS 7.1 has been jailbroken(Tethered Way)!

We only hope for an untethered version from Evasion 7 guys and i have a feeling they cooking something!

UPDATE: There's now an Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 Click here for How-To steps
