Wireless Charging coming to the iPhone? | Mobile phone latest news Google+ Follow Smartfonefreaks on Twitter

It's one we've been waiting for and according to some new reports it just might be coming to pass.

The iPhone might be getting wireless charging.

In the simplest of terms this just means that your phone can be charged without the need to plug the device into a socket.

Apple has joined forces with an industry group called the Wireless Power Consortium in the biggest indication to date that it is working on the technology.

it is speculated that Apple is going to add inductive wireless charging to the iPhone 8, or iPhone X.

Earlier reports had initially suggested that Apple would bypass the technology, used in Samsung's Galaxy, Google's Nexus and Microsoft's Lumia, and wait until it had developed long-range wireless charging.

Although Apple wasn't previously a member of the Consortium, which develops industry standards, it does already use Qi wireless charging for its Watch.

Separate rumours about the iPhone 8, due for release this year in celebration of the device's 10th anniversary, suggest it could have a curved edged OLED screen, a bit like Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge. The rumours have gained weight recently with Apple reportedly purchasing 60 million OLED display panels from Samsung Display.

It seems Apple is also going to ditch the home button on the iPhone X to make way for an edge-to-edge display.
