2012 | Mobile phone latest news Google+ Follow Smartfonefreaks on Twitter

This year(2012) has been a great year for smartphone makers and users, and its been a wonderful time for apps developers coz they've seen some things people want to do with their smartphones but this ones for BB users and I've comprised what tends to be on every blackberry owners phone and they are also the most widely used apps for 2012...

1 BlackBerry Messenger(BBM): Blackberry Messenger tends to be the number one coz without it I don't think there would be BlackBerry also no app that can replace it as far as its on a BlackBerry Platform. Its also the Fastest when it comes to chatting, sending and receiving pictures, VN's(Voice Notes), Broadcasting a message to hundreds of people at the same time.
Website http://www.blackberry.com/messenger

2 Twitter: Taking second sure isn't a mistake coz people tend to be on it more often than others. Its a social networking site used in tweeting, sending messages, making Friends, knowing what is currently Trending in the world, your country, State and also seeing what your favorite Stars are talking about.  Website http://m.twitter.com

3 Facebook: Takes third position because its basically used by its users for sharing pictures they just snapped and upload, you find tons of people online yet they are not ready for a chat coz they are on BBM and Twitter. But its still doing well the new mobile app GUI is very cool, you can now save photos right from the app to your phone instead of munching it which I find a great step for them.
Website http://m.facebook.com

4 OperaMini: The Fastest browser in the world taking the fourth position, This browser is mostly found on all most all BlackBerry smartphones its used for browsing the web, downloading music, saving internet pictures, reading online news and much more. Its the fastest browser you can ever rely on. Website http://m.opera.com

5 BlackBerry Native Browser: This is Blackberry's default browser and its taking fifth position because this days people on BB tends to open links sent to them from their friends using this browser maybe coz its a bit fast and delivers the web page content more interesting(or its just that they are reluctant to Open it with other browers). This browser is best with OS 5 or Higher
Website http://www.blackberry.com

6 Pixmix: This app like its name is used to mix any picture on your phone or memory card, with different type of templates/design that best suites your taste. There's paid and free version for this app and it can be purchased from Appworld.

7 Screen Muncher: Taking the seventh position is used for screen shoting any thing you're currently doing, if its a movie you're watching and you love a part you can just pause it and "HuM" it that's Munch it. Its a cool app with Paid and Free version on Appworld.

8 PicStory: Its about adding, editting and puting cool effects to your pictures just like Pixmix I mentioned above.

9 App World: BlackBerries very own app market used for purchasing and downloading applications, themes and games on your smartphone both Free/Trial and Paid.
Website http://www.blackberry.com/appworld

10 Whatsapp: A mobile app for chatting and sharing files just by having your friends phone number. Whatsapp is a one year free app on a single number but after then you can purchase the app for just $0.99/year.  Website http://m.whatsapp.com
And this comes to the end of the list, thanks for reading, though these are just my ratings from which I have observed from a lot of BB users around me and on the Social networks.

Research In Motion Ltd.’s stock fell to a nine-year low Friday, a day after the Canadian company said phones running its upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system won’t be available until after the holiday shopping season.

Sales of the once-pioneering BlackBerry phones, which now look ancient next to the latest iPhones and Android devices, fell 41 percent in the latest quarter and likely won’t pick up again until new phones come out.
By then, it might be too late. When the new BlackBerrys go on sale in the first three months of 2013 — assuming there won’t be yet-another delay — people will have even more choices:
— This fall, Apple Inc. is expected to release a new iPhone with an improved Siri virtual assistant. It promises a new mapping service that sports voice navigation.
— Samsung and other phone makers are continually selling new models that run Google’s Android operating software. The next version of Android, expected in mid-July, will have improved search and photo sharing.
— Phones running a revamped version of Microsoft’s Windows system are also coming this fall.

BlackBerrys were once a staple in corporate environments because of their reputation for security and reliability. People pulled them out to check email in restaurants, living rooms and vacation homes such that they became known as “CrackBerrys.” When he became president, Barack Obama refused to part with his BlackBerry despite worries about emails sent through it complying with public-record laws.
But BlackBerrys lost their cachet when iPhones came along and demonstrated that smartphones could be good for more than email. People could now watch movies, play games, read books and update their Facebook statuses easily. Outside software programmers started spewing out apps to extend the devices’ functionality and popularity.

RIM portrays BlackBerry 10 as its way of catching up. It promises the multimedia, Internet browsing and apps experience that customers now demand.
RIM unveiled it last October, long after BlackBerrys began to slip in stature. Analysts had hoped to see BlackBerry 10 phones by early 2012, but RIM said in December that they won’t be available until late in the year because they needed a chipset that wasn’t available yet. Now, RIM said the phones won’t be out until 2013.
With yet another delay, BlackBerry loyalists may not be willing to wait longer. Already, the BlackBerry’s U.S. market share has plummeted from 41 percent in 2007 to less than 4 percent in the first three months of 2012, according to research firm IDC.

“The possibility of a comeback is rapidly diminishing,” analyst Steven Li at Raymond James said in a research note. He added that the delay also could discourage outside software developers from writing BlackBerry 10 apps that rival the thousands available for iPhones and Android devices.
Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu said RIM’s main concern should be “more about staying alive. We believe the company needs to be careful with its cash or risk facing bankruptcy.”

Today Sony officially launches its much awaited game console the “Sony PS Vita” which has finally arrived in Europe and North America.

Back In Dec 2011, Sony released this console in Japan and the PS Vita has seen a fair amount of success through its sales in its early days, having sold 321,000 copies within its first two days in Japan. That is a decent figure but its still 50,000 unit sales behind what the Nintendo 3DS scored in its own first two days.

The image below shows the Happy Japan Sony customers with their “Vitas”

Looks like there's more than one editions in it, first Edition bundle ($350 for a 3G Vita, a carrying case, and a 4GB memory card),the $250 Wi-Fi only Vita is also on sale for the first time in the United States, along with the $300 non- bundle 3G/Wi-Fi Vita. The 3G/Wi-Fi Vita is part of a launch bundle, separate from The First Edition bundle, which includes an 8GB memory card (but not case) for a limited time.

BlackBerry just released a new update for all blackberry smartphones and this release is going to fix some bugs and integrate more apps into the BlackBerry Messenger where you and your contacts can interact with great applications so that you don't get so bored of BBM.

Link Updated! March 26 - 2014 Download the OTA version here powered by OTA.SANTO.ASIA

Here's the longed for BlackBerry Playbook a lot of Playbook owners have been waiting for, looks like the wait is over because now in the update there are so many features you would expect from this update. Features like a New gadget docking Homescreen view, introduction of the Android App Player in OS 2.0 to broaden the selection of apps available via
BlackBerry App World, the ability to use your phone's keyboard to enter text on the PlayBook or use your phone as a remote control for your tablet.

According to Mashable.com the New OS brings social integration with services such as Facebook and Twitter, speedier operation with the help of real-time multitasking and several new productivity tools including Documents To Go, which lets you view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.

BlackBerry OS 2.0 for PlayBook also packs native calendar, contacts and messages apps – something the initial version sorely lacked.

BlackBerry Bridge is another new feature that lets you seamlessly switch between screens of your BlackBerry smartphone and the PlayBook. It also lets you use your smartphone as a keyboard and mouse for the tablet.

BlackBerry PlayBook users can get the new OS 2.0 by checking for updates in “Settings.”

Research In Motion Ltd. has lost another major enterprise customer, this time to Apple Inc.

Halliburton Co, Houston Texas-based firm which is among the largest energy services providers in the world plans to replace about 4,500 company-issued BlackBerrys with iPhones within two years. The reason is in order to better support our mobile applications initiatives, said by Halliburton representative to social medias on Tuesday.

Don't be perplexed, recall In November 2010, computer maker Dell Inc. removed approximately
25,000 BlackBerry smartphones and issued employees with devices based on Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Phone 7 platform instead. Also Bank of America and Citigroup company who currently have a massive 500k employees put together, are also considering switching to RIM's rival APPLE in a matter of time.

In the market arena RIM’s share of the United States smartphone market has plummeted from a high of 42.1% two years ago to just 16% by the end of 2011. But the UK shares hasn't dropped yet its still the number one choice for UK citizens/immigrants.

Conclusion: While BlackBerry slows in Bringing the device that will catch back the eye of her lost customer, other manufacturers are way ahead. At the moment Apple already released iPhone 4/4s consecutively with iOS 5 that got that voice to message thing called iSiri, while blackberry are still on the same BlackBerry 7 platform that still has not yet moved the market, but we hear of a BlackBerry 10 this year( I hope this will move them back to where they slide from).

Sometime early this year, BlackBerry were working on updating the Operating System for 9790 aka Bold 4 from the default OS 7.0 to OS 7.1.0.247 which intend to have the following features according to GSMARENA.COM , Wi-Fi enabled calling, NFC tagging, Mobile Hotspot and FM radio support among other improvements. Also updated are various BlackBerry apps, such as Messenger, Traffic, Maps and Travel.

Until now, only the Bold 9900/9930, the Torch 9810/9850/9860, and the Curve 9350/9360/9370 have had official 7.1 builds.

Atleast now the Bold 4 users can now have a feel of the Bold 5 yea.

*Warning! Installing this Leak is at your own risk and also always backup before Installing new OS.

The last time I posted something related to this was about the difference between blackberry's bold 9780/9790 which some folks claim the 9780 is Bold 4 whereas its just a Bold 3 Click Here to learn more. Well for today we want to see the difference between this two Bold touch smartphones the Bold 9790/9900, the bold 9790 is not as stylish and powerful as the Bold 9900 although they don't really have anything that's not common with each other because from what I can learn the bold 9790 is just like a typical clone of Bold 9900(the most talked about smartphobe ATM). The Bold 9900 can also be called Dakota or Magnum(I think the magnum works for me ^_^) while the 9790 can be Bold

According to what i read concerning the rumor which might come true is that Apple is set to launch an iPad 3 and what could be expected from this new gadget is that its going to be similar to it predecessor iPad 2 which was released sometime in Feb last year(2011) but what will be different in this iPad 3 is that it might be running a much faster chip, sporting an improved graphics processing unit, plus a 2048×1536 Retina Display — or something close to it.

With what is been spread Apple is currently developing applications that will fit in this big screen iPad. Little did we know apple iPad is just two years and they already built three different Tablets although two were made whilts steve Jobs was alive while this one is under the regime of Tim cook.

So many guesses from IT bloggers, designers and publishers so below are the thought of people's idea and imagination what the iPad 3 could be like

Could this be iPad 3 ?

May be this...

or this...

Perhaps this is how Steve Jobs thought before he passed out

OMG!!!

Stay glued more still coming.

Jan 27 2010 marks the Launch of Apple iPad Since the launch of this Tablet, the world has never rested on murmuring and asking "how come its this slim" what kind of chip sets are inside ? " and the questions goes on...but in todays history iPad is among one of the most sold device for Apple, iPad has sold over 15.4 million units worldwide and its still one of the first choice for anyone who wants to use a Tablet PC.

Ever since the iPad came in existence two years ago, a lot of changes happened both Positives and Negative in the sense that people no longer want a gadget with low memory, poor GUI, SD pictures, no flexibility handle, and much more...

This device has also conquered almost all the Tablets made by other tablet companies but Amazon kindle fire which is not upto 6 months in existence is fast becoming a rival to iPad, lately this Android tablet has sold over 6 million kindle Fire across the globe and critics says the kindle sold this amount base on the fact that the Amazon Kindle is worth half the price of iPad 1.

In Dec alone Amazon officials claimed they sell atleast 2 million Kindle Fire units per week. Another tablet that made close to such sale was HP touchPad , 300k units were sold in less than 48hrs and why it went this way was also because HP dropped their prize to as low as $99 oh and also Amazon Kindle was as low as $199 while iPad at that time sells from $399!.

Currently iPad 2 prize starts from $499 from Apple store while rumors are already spreading about Apple launching iPad 3 before the end of summer.

An italian company based in Italy published this lovely Android wrist watch, it made a lot of sales in the Xmas period and one of the core features is that you can make and receive calls just by touching the screen, connect it to a Bluetooth headphones and its not fully water resistance but there's one that is water resistance but it doesn't have much feature like this one...check out pic below

You can also get your watch with Chrome and Google logos, so you can show off your love for your favorite browser and search engine if you don’t use an Android.

This apparently isn't a fresh news tho, this happened last year November when a week before the end of the month Google announced the closure of GMail for BlackBerry, in quote from Googleappsupdates.blogspot.com
“ Beginning November 22, 2011, we will end support for the Gmail
App for Blackberry (installed native app). Over this past year,
we've focused efforts on building a great Gmail experience in the
mobile browser and will continue investing in this area.
Users may continue to use the app, if installed, however it will not
be supported by Google, or available for download starting
November 22. BlackBerry users can continue to access Gmail
through the mobile web app at http://www.gmail.com in their
BlackBerry web browser”

Gmail for BlackBerry is an application that pushes emails straight to your blackberry phone with no hassle but Google didn't consider the fact that some people still use old blackberry OS Which the native browser doesn't support HTML5. And also looking at the Android version its pretty Much fascinating with the new GUI integration that makes you just wanna read your emails over and over again but on the iOS its not that bad.

Android smartfones

In December last year apparently one of the biggest rumors spread concerning Google's mobile phone Operating System ANDROID was that Google bragged that 700,000 new android powered Smartphone were been Activated on a daily bases, if this is likely to be true then before the year runs out we might be having close to a Billion Android smartphones globally if they don't relent.

Currently Android is making way in the market infact Android stand the chance of being the second best mobile platform in the Market. According to my rating for best selling Mobile smartphones are Apple-iPhone, Google-Android and RIM-BlackBerry.

Android logo

Google finally reveals its Q4 earnings for 2011 and it has been revealed that the Android app market isn't doing bad instead its matching up, reaching 11 billion hits for 2011. Who knows what will be the outcome for this year because the range in which technology and it user friendly applications are getting the attentions of consumers(which is me and you) is dynamic, so overwhelming.

The 11 billion downloads include virtually everything that one can
download from the Android Market including music downloads, games, movies, and of course applications etc...

EA logo
Electronic Arts(EA) sports are ready for the launch of the New PS Vita launching on Feb 22, according to EA producer Matt prior he said "One of the things we set out to do from the start was create a version of FIFA which felt as weighty as the PS3 versions, he further explained in his own words " EA SPORTS FIFA Football on PS Vita is the most complex and complete FIFA game we've ever made for any handheld system."

Fifa football
Now let's take a look at some features EA sports are promising

*Over 500 officially licensed clubs
*Eight different game modes With Career mode
*Online head-to-head mode
*Touch screen passing controls
*Crowd control (Home and Away)
*PS3 Graphics and lots more...

So if you've been searching for that perfect video game football
experience before you go to a real-life match, EA SPORTS FIFA
Football is the ideal warm-up. Make no mistake, this is a quality
debut for EA SPORTS FIFA on PS Vita - and there are plenty of tricks
left in this player's arsenal...

Conclusion by Matt Prior (EA sports producer)
"EA SPORTS FIFA Football on PS Vita is the PlayStation 3 FIFA
experience in the palm of your hand," smiles Prior. "I'd encourage
everyone to play it when it launches in February 2012 - until you
do, you won't realise how good it is."

More Updates on this.....stay tuned and share this.

Think Smart Use Smartphones

In Beijing this morning Friday the 13, angry customers throw eggs at an Apple store due to the news been told to the customers that the store won't be open. It got some customers who have been on the queue about over 12 hours, so as to be among those to buy the much awaited iPhone 4s. Majority are wholesalers who wants to buy in bulk and display in their own shops or stores while others are just laying their hands for the first time and some are only queuing to upgrade the former iPhone 4.

According to Guardian.co.UK Here's what a customer said
“I got in line around 11pm, and beyond the line the plaza was chock full with people," said Huang Xiantong, 26, outside the store. "Around 5am the crowds in the plaza broke through and the line disappeared entirely. Everyone was fighting, several people were hurt," said Huang, who wanted to buy a new iPhone for his girlfriend. "The police just started hitting people. They were just brawling."

This same issue happened last year May precisely after Apple announced its launch of an iPhone 4 but was later delayed for several hours. Apple claims its for the security and protection of lives of her customers because the crowd was overwhelming and their employers may not have the capacity to handle all of them.

here's a word from Apple "The demand for the iPhone 4S has been incredible and our stores in
China have already sold out," Apple said in a statement.
"Unfortunately we were unable to open our store at Sanlitun due to
the large crowd and to ensure the safety of our customers and
employees, the iPhone will not be available in our retail stores in
Beijing and Shanghai for the time being," Apple said.
Apple's chief executive, Tim Cook, said earlier this month that
"customer response to our products in China has been off the charts.
With the launch in China … the iPhone 4S will be available in over 90
countries, making this our fastest iPhone rollout ever".

Image second: japantoday.com

Apple this year will be unveiling their new products which i believe some customers are already anticipating to lay their hands on it. And also we have sorted out what could be the in thing from Apple this year, below are the list and reviews of what we believe could storm the Industry from Apple Inc.

iPad 3
Fair enough, we can expect an iPad 3 from
Apple this year, and this iPad 2 successor will be coming within the next three or four months. Rumor has it that this new iPad will seriously pack a punch with an A6 quad core processor and Siri
personal assistant app and also there will be a
whopping 1536 x 2048 pixel screen with 330-dpi
on the new iPad. An entirely new design and
thinness can also be expected.

iPhone 5
Mid last year rumor went around saying Apple already lauched iPhone 5 and it went on until the company finally released its official device naming it iPhone 4s but on a more serious note the iPhone 5 will surely be a reality this year.
Now, we can probably look for an iPhone 5 with
a 4-inch display, iOS 6, revamped Siri app, a
quad core A6 processor, NFC and many other
features.

iPad Mini (Amazon's kindle like tablet)
This is another rumor regarding that Apple will most likely roll out a small version of its iPad in
competition to Amazon Kindle Fire and other 7-
inch tablets. Apple is
reportedly researching on a small iPad for late
this year so they say.
Please note that the image above is typically a sample or size of what the iPad mini might look like i guess its going to be more height less width

iOS 6
This is a done deal from Apple because traditionally Apple rolls out an upgrade to its
iOS mobile operating system every year. Last
year, we had iOS 5; there will certainly be an
iOS 6 this year. The new version of iOS will be
up with many cutting edge features. Of course,
the new iPhone 5 will land in with iOS 6 as the
firmware.

Revamped Siri
Siri is one of the most successful features of
iPhone 4S. Indeed, fueled by its success, Apple
will be updating the voice recognition app with
many new features and bug fixes. Apple will
certainly look for a technological evolution for
Siri app. There might be support for more
languages, colloquial phrases and others.
Maybe, Siri will be extended to iPad and iPod
